FAQ

Questions about ecommerce builds, Magento, Shopify, Next.js and SEO

Answers are factual and conservative. Costs and timelines depend on catalog and integrations. Rankings are not promised. If a question is missing, it probably belongs on a service page rather than in a catch-all list.

How much does ecommerce development cost?

Cost depends on catalog complexity, checkout rules, integrations and whether you are launching on Magento, Shopify or a custom stack. A focused Shopify storefront is a different engagement from a Magento 2 build with ERP, multi-store and custom checkout. We estimate after we see the catalog, integrations and the current site — not from a published starting price that ignores those facts.

How long does an ecommerce website take to build?

A contained Shopify or marketing-led storefront can often be scoped in weeks. Magento 2 builds, migrations and stores with several integrations typically take months because catalog data, checkout and third-party systems have to be true, not just visually complete. Timeline is driven by content readiness and integration access as much as by engineering.

Should I use Magento or Shopify?

Shopify is usually the better fit when the catalog is relatively standard, the team wants operational simplicity and the app ecosystem covers the gaps. Magento 2 (Adobe Commerce or Open Source) is the better fit when you need deep catalog, pricing, B2B or checkout control that would otherwise become a pile of Shopify apps. The wrong choice is picking either platform because it is fashionable.

Can you improve an existing Magento website?

Yes. A large share of Magento work is not a rebuild. We audit modules, theme overrides, checkout customizations, indexers and third-party extensions, then decide what to patch, replace or isolate. Upgrades, performance work and SEO repairs are often more valuable than starting over.

Can you migrate an existing ecommerce website?

Yes. Migrations usually include catalog and customer data, URL redirects, checkout parity, payment and shipping methods, and a plan for SEO so organic landing pages are not discarded. Magento-to-Shopify, Shopify-to-Magento and replatforms onto a headless storefront are all possible; the risk is in data and redirects, not in the theme.

What is technical SEO?

Technical SEO is the work that decides whether search engines can crawl, understand and index the site you actually shipped. It covers robots rules, sitemaps, canonicals, status codes, JavaScript rendering, site architecture, structured data and Core Web Vitals. It does not replace content, but content cannot compensate for a site that is blocked, duplicated or too slow to use.

Why is website performance important for SEO?

Slow pages waste crawl budget, increase bounce on mobile, and fail Core Web Vitals thresholds that Google uses as quality signals. On ecommerce sites, performance also changes conversion: shoppers abandon heavy category and checkout templates. Speed work is both an SEO and a revenue task.

Can an existing website be rebuilt using Next.js?

Yes, when the current site is limited by a page builder, an aging CMS theme or a frontend that cannot meet performance and SEO requirements. A Next.js rebuild still needs a content model, redirects and a rendering strategy. It is not automatically faster — it is faster when templates, data fetching and third-party scripts are designed that way.

Do you provide ongoing website maintenance?

Yes. Maintenance covers platform and dependency updates, security patches, content and catalog changes, monitoring, and production fixes. Magento, Shopify and Next.js sites all decay without it — through abandoned extensions, breaking API changes or silent SEO regressions.

Do you guarantee search engine rankings?

No. Rankings depend on the site, the market, competitors and changes at the search engine. We work on crawlability, content structure, internal linking, performance and ecommerce information architecture — the parts we can control. Anyone selling a guaranteed position is selling something they do not own.

Do I need a headless ecommerce storefront?

Only if the native storefront cannot meet the experience, performance or channel requirements, and you have the team to own two systems. Headless Magento or Shopify work adds a frontend (often Next.js) in front of the commerce engine. It is a good answer for some catalogs and a cost problem for others.

Do you work with Shopify Plus as well as Shopify?

Yes. Shopify Plus matters when checkout extensibility, launch tooling, or B2B features on Shopify are actually required. We still treat apps and scripts as a performance budget. Plus is not a substitute for a clear catalog and checkout design.

Can you upgrade an older Magento 2 store?

Yes. Magento upgrades fail when custom modules and theme overrides were written against internals that changed. We inventory those customizations, test checkout and integrations, and upgrade on a path that preserves catalog and order history. Skipping versions to “catch up in one go” is sometimes necessary and always needs a proper regression plan.

Do you write content as well as build the website?

We structure pages, metadata, internal links and templates so content can rank. Service and article copy can live as structured content or in a CMS — the templates stay the same. For client projects we can collaborate with your team or a writer; we do not replace subject-matter knowledge with generic website filler.

Who owns the code and the store after the project?

You should. Magento code, Shopify themes and Next.js repositories are delivered so your team or a later partner can continue the work. We do not lock operational control behind an unowned app or a theme that only we can edit.

Do you work with companies outside a single local market?

Yes. Ecommerce and web projects are routinely remote. What matters is access to the catalog, analytics, hosting and the people who own merchandising and content — not whether we sit in the same city. Specific commercial terms should be confirmed when you are ready to engage.

Do you set up analytics and tracking?

We implement the technical side of analytics, tag placement and ecommerce events when they are in scope. We do not invent conversion numbers or install every marketing pixel requested. Tracking should match the checkout and lead events that actually exist.

How do you handle faceted navigation for SEO?

Faceted navigation is useful for shoppers and dangerous for indexation. We define which filter combinations deserve indexable landing pages, which should be canonicalized or noindexed, and how internal links should point to the pages you actually want ranked. Leaving every filter crawlable is how duplicate catalogs appear.

What are Core Web Vitals in practical terms?

Largest Contentful Paint, Interaction to Next Paint and Cumulative Layout Shift describe whether the main content appears promptly, whether the page responds quickly, and whether the layout jumps while loading. On stores, LCP is often a product image or hero; INP suffers from heavy JavaScript; CLS comes from late-loading banners and fonts.

When should we not rebuild the website?

If the platform still fits, the catalog is sound and the problems are concentrated in theme weight, a few modules or content structure, a targeted fix is cheaper than a rebuild. Rebuilds are justified when the architecture cannot meet SEO, performance or operating requirements even after cleanup.

What is AI SEO?

AI SEO means using artificial intelligence to assist research, outlines, drafts and analysis — while humans still decide accuracy, brand voice and what gets published. It is not a licence to flood Google with thin AI pages. On this site, AI SEO also covers structuring entities and FAQs so classic search and AI answer surfaces can describe your business clearly.

Is it safe to publish AI-generated content for SEO?

Only when a subject-matter expert reviews and edits it. Search engines reward helpful, original content; unedited AI text often repeats generic advice, invents facts or duplicates other pages. We use AI as a draft assistant, not as an unsupervised publisher.

What is Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO)?

GEO is the practice of making your brand easy for generative AI systems and AI overviews to understand and cite accurately — clear service definitions, FAQs, consistent entity naming and trustworthy source pages. Nobody can guarantee inclusion in AI answers; the controllable work is clarity and authority on your own site.

Does structured data help AI SEO and GEO?

Yes, when it matches visible content. Organization, Service, FAQ, Breadcrumb and Article markup help machines interpret pages. Fake reviews, fake ratings or markup that does not appear on the page is harmful. We implement honest JSON-LD only.

Can you make our brand appear in Google AI Overviews?

No agency controls AI Overview selection. What we can do is improve crawlability, answer-shaped content, entity clarity and citations on pages worth referencing. Results vary by query and change as Google updates systems.

Platform, catalog size and the current problem are enough to have a useful conversation.
