Platform and security updates
Magento patches and Shopify platform changes tested against checkout and critical integrations.
Store operations
After launch, Magento and Shopify stores accumulate patch debt, app conflicts and catalog changes that never quite make it into a project. Maintenance is the operating rhythm that keeps checkout, security and merchandising current.
Fit
That fear is usually justified if there is no staging discipline. Maintenance exists so patches are routine instead of emergency weekends.
If adding a product attribute or a landing collection requires a release, the store is under-tooled. Some of that is a build issue; some of it is missing editorial process.

Section 01
Maintenance is not a disguised rebuild. New checkout architecture, a replatform, or a Magento version jump across several major releases is project work. Maintenance is the queue of updates, fixes and catalog changes that keep the current architecture honest.
Section 02
We can maintain Magento and Shopify estates we did not launch. That starts with an inventory of modules, apps, hosting, admin users and outstanding security issues. If the store is too far gone, we will say a project is required before a retainer is useful.
Yes. Maintenance covers platform and dependency updates, security patches, content and catalog changes, monitoring, and production fixes. Magento, Shopify and Next.js sites all decay without it — through abandoned extensions, breaking API changes or silent SEO regressions.
Yes. A large share of Magento work is not a rebuild. We audit modules, theme overrides, checkout customizations, indexers and third-party extensions, then decide what to patch, replace or isolate. Upgrades, performance work and SEO repairs are often more valuable than starting over.
Cost depends on catalog complexity, checkout rules, integrations and whether you are launching on Magento, Shopify or a custom stack. A focused Shopify storefront is a different engagement from a Magento 2 build with ERP, multi-store and custom checkout. We estimate after we see the catalog, integrations and the current site — not from a published starting price that ignores those facts.
If the platform still fits, the catalog is sound and the problems are concentrated in theme weight, a few modules or content structure, a targeted fix is cheaper than a rebuild. Rebuilds are justified when the architecture cannot meet SEO, performance or operating requirements even after cleanup.
